In quel tempo, [i pastori] andarono, senza indugio, e trovarono Maria e Giuseppe e il bambino, adagiato nella mangiatoia. E dopo averlo visto, riferirono ciò che del bambino era stato detto loro.
Tutti quelli che udivano si stupirono delle cose dette loro dai pastori. Maria, da parte sua, custodiva tutte queste cose, meditandole nel suo cuore.
I pastori se ne tornarono, glorificando e lodando Dio per tutto quello che avevano udito e visto, com’era stato detto loro.
Quando furono compiuti gli otto giorni prescritti per la circoncisione, gli fu messo nome Gesù, come era stato chiamato dall’angelo prima che fosse concepito nel grembo.

Commento
The Gospel passage narrates an episode in the life of a Jewish family, but the setting is unusual for a birth. This is a family social exclusion. Yet the child is God and the young woman has conceived and born in virginity. Some pastors are quick in response to a message from heaven, to recognize and glorify Him in their own way. It is difficult to consider
your God?
turning our thoughts for a moment about the persistent fascination exerted by his mother on men and women of every class and environment, on people who have experienced successes or failures of any kind, on men of genius, on the marginalized, and anguished over the soldiers intended to die on the battlefield, about people who go through hardships spiritual.
The artistic genius is often devoted to his praise: think of the "Pieta" by Michelangelo, the great number of medieval and Renaissance Madonnas, the beautiful stained glass windows of Chartres Cathedral and the most beautiful of all the icons of Our Lady of Vladimir, waiting patiently in the Tretyakov Museum in Moscow, better days.
Why Madonna inspires such humanity?
Perhaps because, as the Orthodox say, an icon (= image) of God?
Maybe because God speaks through him, even if Mary is still a creature, albeit a unique creature, thanks to gifts received from the Father? This
has been the subject of discussion, often heated, great spirits when they tried to express in human terms the mystery of God made man.
Mary was called Mother of God, the Theotokos, and this helped to calm disputes intellectuals.
